Nursery Enrichment
3½ to 4½ years old
The Nursery Programme prepares your child to enter into kindergarten and primary school. Your child will learn to be independent, creative through Montessori activities. The programme refines your child's five sense to prepare him/her to read and write well.   Topics Covered:

Practical Life
New students are introduced to this area first. Here they will find things that remind them of home. They can improve their skills of pouring, transferring, sorting, threading, polishing, learning to care for themselves and their environment. These activities are shown to them in a very simple and comprehensive way that builds confidence to tackle more complex tasks.

Sensorial
The children will move on to the Sensorial Materials (things we see, touch, hear, taste & smell). We believe that children learn through their senses. Here there are exercises that develop the child's skills to distinguish the senses. They learn to distinguish things they hear, see, taste, smell and touch making them aware of the objects in their environment. Sensorial materials introduce them to texture, temperature, colour, sound, shape, smell and taste.

Language
Having mastered practical life and sensorial exercises and having developed the ability to listen and the fine motor movement needed to use a pen and write a little, the child is then introduced to the Montessori language exercises.

Montessori developed a unique method for teaching children to read and write. She believed that although language was innate, the right stimulation could enhance learning.

However, Language is only introduced when the child shows an interest. We find that children are naturally curious about letters and shapes and the sounds they make. The key to teaching language lies in engaging a child's interest. Stories, songs and rhymes all play a very important part. These introduce children to language, story telling, creative imagination, word play and reading.

Mathematics
When the child is ready we introduce the Mathematics materials. Mathematics is taught when the child has a full understanding of Practical Life and Sensorial materials. These have already introduced pre-math concepts including counting, size, shape, order, sequence, weights, mass etc. The wide range of maths materials are introduced in stages.

Our main aim when introducing maths is to make it interesting and fun. Children respond very positively when they master new techniques free from pressure in a climate of discovery.

Cultural
Children explore the world about them through the projects run at the centre. Projects are carefully researched with every member of staff involved. Teachers then choose aspects of the projects to prepare as lesson plans.

Projects Work includes...
'Myself'. The children learn to describe themselves and each other. They do self portraits, and pictures of each other too. They learn about personal hygiene and safety in the home. They discuss likes and dislikes.

Creative Activities
Children do not have to be budding artists and chefs to enjoy mixing paints and making pastry. Most children simply wants the freedom to discover their abilities and try their hand at something new. It is natural for a child to indulge in his/her own form of creative play. With a bit of help and encouragement, playtime can become an enriching experience. Dr. Maria Montessori always maintained that children should be treated with dignity and respect. The child will be given time to express himself/herself. Thus creative activities will give a child stimulation and release.

12.30pm to 3.30pm (Mon - Fri)
